i want you to dress
in my lecture

pretend you grew-down between the mating calls
of dueling chain-saws
and saw the sirens song so whole heartedly
that their notes played in techincolor strobe

run so far into the tree line
that pebbles on the path crack the outline
and the dash marks dance in your peripherial
notion
of where you actually are

scream
at the top of your lungs

tipping toes spill into sprinting strides
and your tears taste like self-assurance
as you try as hard as you can
to be found
but just find
an even better place to hide

get lost in my stanzas
and maybe you can find me on your way
out

let me fill your quotations
until they throw up words
that drip down the love notes you've put them in
and pour into breakup letters
at the footnote to your bed
of nails

i want every man to pitch my lines
like used car salesmen

for every beard-bearing photographer
to spin my art through the thatch of his plaid shi(r)t
roll up his sleeve of tattoos
and wear the cursive heart he can't even read,

for her

i want to be in your top list with:
charles bukowski
ee cummings
and 2pac

i want you to love me
for all the wrong reasons
and acknowledge me for the ones i should be
striving for
because you're too stupid to comprehend
what i'm really trying to convey

which

summed

up

is

i want to be a narcissist
through your eyes
so i can by own greatest fan
in third person

and never have to
admit to it.

little folk - big hearts

Paul Baribeau

Paul Baribeau’s warm, witty sounds and gnarly beard bring something truly unique and interesting to the folk-punk table. With such well-known friends as Matty Pop Chart and Kimya Dawson, the South Central Michigan native collaborates often, but has two of his own beautiful solo records out on Plan-It-X.

ten things -

never get to know -

Johnny Flynn

Johnny Flynn & The Sussex Wit are an English folk rock band signed to Lost Highway. They are fronted by Johnny Flynn (also known as Joe Flynn), an actor, poet and songwriter who cites W.B. Yeats and Shakespeare among his influences. He is a member of the 'Propeller' theatre troupe, acting in several plays including Twelfth Night. Band members of 'The Sussex Wit' include Matt Edmonds, Adam Beach, Joe Zeitlin, Lillie Flynn and Johnny Flynn.
Flynn is a graduate of the Bedales school, which he attended on scholarship. The school's recent alumni include Lily Allen, Luke Pritchard of the Kooks and Patrick Wolf.

tickle me pink -

Edward Colver

punk isn’t about opposing society, it’s about operating independent of it.

IT WAS fast, it was furious and it was over in a blink. But photographer Edward Colver's shutter blinked a fraction faster. If not for his poking in and out of hot, dank punk clubs across the Southland, a whole big chunk of L.A.'s early hardcore scene of the '70s and early '80s would have hurtled -- visually -- out of memory.

If you were there, you remember him. He was everywhere -- Hong Kong Cafe, the Cuckoo's Nest, Perkins Palace -- impossible to miss: The tall guy smack in the middle of the churning mosh pit, towering over the melee ("When they push it, I tell 'em I'm 5-17."); the one with the thrashed Pentax with the strobe duct-taped to the hot shoe, the one you might have seen later rolling off into the night in a powder-blue hearse.

But when that first wave bowed off, so did he. Or so people seemed to think.

He and his subject slipped out of the frame. The images, however, continued to swirl round and round, many without Colver's knowledge. Just as Colver had once been, they were now ubiquitous. Not just on punk rock websites or lending a visual foundation for documentaries like "American Hardcore," but on T-shirts and other paradoxically ready-made anarchy gear lining the walls of mall stores. If that weren't unsettling enough, Colver and his wife, Lani, a make-up artist, recently discovered that one of his most famous shots, the photo from the Circle Jerks' "Group Sex" album, had ended up on a line of Vans sports shoes. "It's kind of turned into this detrimental thing because everybody remembers my photos, but they forgot I took 'em. . . . And it's kinda weird," Colver says with a "whatever" shrug.

Where The Wild Things Are

The film concerns the imaginary adventures of a young boy named Max (Max Records), who is angry when his mother, Connie (Catherine Keener), invites her boyfriend over. After causing one mischievous antic after another, he is sent to his room without supper. Feeling angry and unloved, he then creates a forest bordering a massive ocean, and sails away to an island inhabited by many imaginary monsters called the Wild Things, who crown him as their ruler.

Visionary director Spike Jonze brings Maurice Sendak's beloved children's book to the big screen with the help of hipster icon Dave Eggers, who teamed with Jonze to pen the adapted screenplay. A mixture of real actors, computer animation, and live puppeteering.

Filming began in April 2006 at Central City Studios in MelbourneAustralia. According to Jonze, most of the film was shot with a handheld camera in order to compliment the "evocative" "other-worldly" feel of the film. [3]Adam Keenan and John Nolan are responsible for the animatronics. The film is currently in post-production.

this keliedascope is the closest ive come to seeing
the need to go-
before you fractured the maniscus
i saw a means for hope.

i looked down that barrel for hours
like i never before learned to sea
-where you shoot fish
with ease
i eat bullets while they learn to breathe
under water as their jackets shed
at my feet.

before you shot the fish
that swum around behind my eyelids,

i saw a reason

-now i see a million each too small to motivate
and collectively far too shattered
to build the latter of emotions
that it would take to get me to build
you the bridge across this ocean;

have a nice swim.

How Do You Like Your Eggs by Banksy

They seek him here, they seek him there, but if Banksy was anywhere near Bristol City Museum and Art Gallery yesterday he was keeping a typically low profile.

The world’s most elusive artist has taken over the largest museum in his home town and filled it with more than 100 of his iconoclastic creations. But was the perfectionist Banksy on site as the finishing touches were put to the exhibition yesterday?

Outside, a blond man in his thirties wearing new trainers watched visitors going in and out. Was he the artist taking a break? Perhaps the only suspect for an artist who likes to portray himself as a rat was a terrified mouse trapped beneath a paper cup in the Egypt gallery.

From his beginnings as a graffiti artist on Bristol’s streets, Banksy has become one of Britain’s most soughtafter artists. An anthology of his recent work is the world’s bestselling art book.

The exhibits installed in the gallery are his way of giving something back to the city he grew up in, according to the museum’s director, Kate Brindley. She was first approached last October, and sworn to secrecy. Just four of the museum’s staff knew of the plans.

Ms Brindley said: “We gave the staff a couple of days off and said we were filming. We were taking a huge risk because no one has spoken to Banksy, it’s all been done through his agents.”

Visitors to the free exhibition, which runs until August, will be greeted by a burnt-out ice-cream van. A dummy riot policeman wearing a balaclava and a badge which reads Metropolitan Peace is making his getaway from the carnage on a fairground horse.

Exhibits have been infiltrated into the galleries alongside the museum’s own works. A stone Buddha sits on a plinth with a broken arm and a neck brace, Old Masters have been adapted to include flying saucers or characters bursting out of the frame. In one typically Banksian pun, Dorothy and Toto from The Wizard of Oz are painted on a sheet of rusting iron with a speech bubble saying: “I don’t think we’re on canvas any more.” There is an original Damian Hirst spot painting defaced by a rat with a paint roller. A stencilled picture shows an African orphan with a bucket saying: “Peaches Geldof — please give generously.”

Banksy claims that he has to maintain his anonymity for “legal” reasons. In the press release accompanying the exhibition, he said: “Maybe one day graffiti art will hang in lots of museums and be viewed in the same way as other modern art, although personally I hope it never sinks that low.”

Roses Are Dead

by Tim Clark

You've pulled me apart
just to pull yourself together.
Now I'm partial to seperation,
repeating an era like it's a
chorus to my great depression.
Anxiety is my chocolate noose.
You'll have to eat your way out
or digest the emptiness soon.

Would you ring your wrists for me
If I decided to engage familiarity
and leave intimacy at the altar?
Your metal bridal gown will weigh
down spendour under the marquee.
I forced my vows, forging a crowd
around a crown worse then thorns.
There's a stampede singing...

"Give me the gun."
I shot a flower once
but the bullet wilted
before it hit her stem.
When the smoke
cleared the lead
grew to full bloom.
I'd choose pollen
over gunpowder;
allergies over eulogies.

The breeze squeezed the trigger,
casting seeds to spray in every
direction; falling like lost stars
cast from a galaxy of dandelions.
I inserted clips into the dirt,
learning this earth is worlds away
from the roads were dark roses
allure us with fragrant stains.
I'll keep pedels in my pocket to
heal the pain she planted, though
these sentiments aren't organic.

She consumed me in her fire-arms.
There's no wholes in her black heart.

Skwerm

aka David Ellis

David Ellis is an artist born into a family immersed in music. In his youth Ellis had little patience with piano lessons or reading sheet music. Instead he absorbed everything on The Super Mix, a Saturday night radio program broadcast from the nearby Fort Bragg military base. Each week a new cassette tape of emerging New York hip-hop found its way into the life of a child growing up in a log house in North Carolina. By the time Grandmaster Flash and the Furious 5 released The Message, Ellis was writing rhymes and banging out beats with his friends on the desks at school. Things have since become much louder.

Ellis' work continues to interpret music and sound. His paintings are often recorded in a form of digital time-lapse animation Ellis calls motion painting. Like jazz, these works provide Ellis with an opportunity to combine ideas with collaborators or work solo within a form that promotes improvisation and spontaneity. For a recent commission the artist painted a truck from sunup to sundown over five consecutive days. Ellis often stages events when exhibiting his motion paintings, inviting musicians, performers, and sound artists to interpret the work live. His motion painting, Paint on Trucks in a World in Need of Love was recently exhibited at MoMA.

Ellis' paintings are frequently improvised. He works directly on the walls of spaces that remain open to the public during installation and shares the making of the work with viewers. The experience is much like a band playing in front of a passing audience.

Ellis further explores sound with kinetic installations that produce analogue sequences in rhythm.

my winnipeg

Have you ever wanted to relive your childhood and do things differently? Guy Maddin (THE SADDEST MUSIC IN THE WORLD) casts B-movie icon Ann Savage as his domineering mother in attempt to answer that question in MY WINNPEG, a hilariously wacky and profoundly touching goodbye letter to his childhood hometown. A documentary (or "docu-fantasia" as Maddin proclaims) that inventively blends local and personal history with surrealist images and metaphorical myths, the film covers everything from the fire at the local park which lead to a frozen lake of distressed horse heads to pivotal and factually heightened scenes from Maddin's own childhood, all laced with a startling emotional honesty. MY WINNIPEG is Maddin's most personal film and a truly unique cinematic experience, winning the best Canadian film at the Toronto International Film Festival and the opening night selection of the Berlin Film Festival's Forum.

Eloisa to Abelard

excerps written by Alexander Pope

Yet here for ever, ever must I stay;
Sad proof how well a lover can obey!
Death, only death, can break the lasting chain;
And here, ev'n then, shall my cold dust remain,
Here all its frailties, all its flames resign,
And wait till 'tis no sin to mix with thine.

Ah wretch! believ'd the spouse of God in vain,
Confess'd within the slave of love and man.
Assist me, Heav'n! but whence arose that pray'r?
Sprung it from piety, or from despair?
Ev'n here, where frozen chastity retires,
Love finds an altar for forbidden fires.
I ought to grieve, but cannot what I ought;
I mourn the lover, not lament the fault;
I view my crime, but kindle at the view,
Repent old pleasures, and solicit new;
Now turn'd to Heav'n, I weep my past offence,
Now think of thee, and curse my innocence.
Of all affliction taught a lover yet,
'Tis sure the hardest science to forget!
How shall I lose the sin, yet keep the sense,
And love th' offender, yet detest th' offence?
How the dear object from the crime remove,
Or how distinguish penitence from love?
Unequal task! a passion to resign,
For hearts so touch'd, so pierc'd, so lost as mine.
Ere such a soul regains its peaceful state,
How often must it love, how often hate!
How often hope, despair, resent, regret,
Conceal, disdain — do all things but forget.
But let Heav'n seize it, all at once 'tis fir'd;
Not touch'd, but rapt; not waken'd, but inspir'd!
Oh come! oh teach me nature to subdue,
Renounce my love, my life, myself — and you.
Fill my fond heart with God alone, for he
Alone can rival, can succeed to thee.

How happy is the blameless vestal's lot!
The world forgetting, by the world forgot.
Eternal sunshine of the spotless mind!
Each pray'r accepted, and each wish resign'd;
Labour and rest, that equal periods keep;
"Obedient slumbers that can wake and weep;"
Desires compos'd, affections ever ev'n,
Tears that delight, and sighs that waft to Heav'n.
Grace shines around her with serenest beams,
And whisp'ring angels prompt her golden dreams.
For her th' unfading rose of Eden blooms,
And wings of seraphs shed divine perfumes,
For her the Spouse prepares the bridal ring,
For her white virgins hymeneals sing,
To sounds of heav'nly harps she dies away,
And melts in visions of eternal day.
